The Fort of Beliche, in Cabo de S. Vicente in Sagres, was built during the 16th century, in a date before 1587, since this fort is drawn on the map of this region during the attack perpetrated by Francis Drake.
The fort, dedicated to Santo António, had the function of controlling this area of possible landings by pirates or enemies and protecting the fishermen who worked there in a tuna fishing trap.
The entrance to the fort bears a shield with the Royal Arms and an inscription dating from 1632, referring to the reconstruction of the fort in that same year, by order of the Count of Prado, D. Luís de Sousa, Governor and Captain-General of the Kingdom of the Algarve.
Inside, there is a Chapel dedicated to Santa Catarina.
The space is the stage for several events, among which stands out the Sagres Bird Watching and Nature Activities Festival, which takes place annually, on the 1st weekend of October.
